hmmm...let me think about it.

This (photo from birth center in Basel, Switzerland)

Vs. This (stock photos of American hospital)

Why are there so few birthing choices for American women? Why can't women have access to an array of options where they're able to pick the place they feel most comfortable in giving birth?
*Traditional hospital setting
*Hospital setting attended by midwives
*Birth center with cooperative back up support from obstetrician in local hospital
*Home birth attended by a midwife with privileges in local hospital and back up specialists

I'm not sure where I'd feel most comfortable in the future, but I'd at least like to have the choice.

It's very unfortunate, indeed. Last time I gave birth, I couldn't even have a bag of hamburgers. It's just not right. But seriously folks, when I was but a boy, I saw my brother Adam birthed in my parents bedroom. There were midwives. It was pretty magical, and pretty slimy.

Hi, I just ran across your blog. I really reccomend the movie "The Business of Being Born" which I happened to watch a couple days ago. It's pretty amazing.
