I guess if we're pulling things from the vault, all is fair. Check out das Phil circa way long ago. Actually this is probably from the same year as mine. Don't we make a cute little 18 & 23 year old couple?Saturday, July 12, 2008

two unconnected things
white dresses
Admittedly, this is because its often the easiest way to look pulled together while still putting little to no effort into it. Lately I have been intrigued by white dresses. The shorter more 1950's esque type, something one would wear to a real swanky summer party or an informal courthouse wedding. These few come to mind:

Oh. And I am not at all opposed to living in a dream world wherein I am a rich pre-feminism era housewife from the 1940-50's who does nothing but buy really expensive white dresses.Check out Stephanie James Couture for some really amazingly crafted dresses. I also think that pillbox hats, white gloves and cage veils should definitely come back in vogue.
And one more I could not resist; not nearly as fancy but so adorable. A maternity summery one:
I want it so bad, but that's a bit much in the preemptive buying department. You know, considering I am not pregnant and all. But, whatever.oobi knit overalls
matryoshka dolls
Clearly the doll obsession has no intention of stopping any time soon. Here's the newest to add to the pile. Shabby chic little Russian doll on etsy.

swimsuit glory
There's something quite nice & different about this one piece from Anthropologie. Still not beating out my retro bathing suit lust, but it's nice. Can you believe there are people out there who pay nearly $200 for a bathing suit?!

shelving

I love the way this shelving was placed around the different art prints. Check the rest from this set.
wedding images
I've always loved weddings and have been reminiscing about this time last year when I was in the thick of planning mine. I tend to get obsessed about things I really like & I am a huge planner, therefore Philipp is probably really glad we're married already. Me too, but I love party planning & design so I miss that creative outlet.Strangely enough, I am not an animal person at all, but always loved this shot (not enough to let my sister's lab attend like she wanted, though).
This was a wedding that inspired me while I was planning mine last year. I am not as crafty as I'd like to be and I had really disparate ideas about what I wanted ours to look like, so it did not turn out as intricately as this one, but we had a great time:

And a few shots from ours that I particularly like:

Oh, and some things I would have done differently if there was a second go round:*no bouquet toss/garter toss--it was just confusing and lame; we had only 50 guests and not many single people
*have someone else do our ceremony--someone who would not at the last minute implant their religious views into the secular vows we had written & they agreed upon
*exclude a handful of people who I invited only out of propriety; even though our guest list was under 55 people, just out of principle
*kept the cheapo guy who did our engagement & bridal portraits (he did a great job); we paid WAY too much for our day of photography!
*not do favors--hardly anyone took them home and I now am the humble owner of about 50 little tin buckets
*put live flowers on the little wedding cake
Thats all!
(On a side note: after writing all of this, I feel like one of those The Knot freaks who live for their wedding day and never progress after it....no no no!)

Parenting, Inc.
I just finished this one up. Its a really good read on the how's & why's of America becoming obsessed with its own offspring. Not so many decades ago, weren't we all in beat up Osh Kosh's, ratty ole unisex Onesies and playing with dirt & sticks? I clearly remember my toddlerhood outfit being a red local BBQ joint t shirt with some Piggly Wiggly looking logo on it, matched with navy blue sweatpants and suspenders with rainbow hearts on them. Not Baby Gucci.
I saw something akin to this in a baby store recently. A Bliss Baby Spa? Are you kidding me? The little attachment on the left creates jacuzzi bubbles for your infant's bathing experience. Oh, Jesus.I think this is a more telling picture of how I was bathed in the 80's:
